There are two types of eruptions, explosive and nonexplosive. Inside a volcano there is a magma chamber that feeds the volcano magma. Magma erupts as either lava or pyroclastic material from a volcano. Lava is magma that has flowed onto the Earth's surface. Pyroclastic material forms when magma is blasted into the air and then hardens. There are four types of lava; aa, pahoehoe, pillow, and blocky lava. There are also four types of pyroclastic material; volcanic bombs, volcanic blocks, lapilli, and volcanic ash. A pyroclastic flow is one of the most dangerous types of volcanic flows. There are three different types of volcanoes they are shield volcanoes, cindercone volcanoes, and composite volcanoes. The location of volcanoes gives us clues to how volcanoes form. Volcanoes can be extinct, dormant, or active.
